Carmina Burana

Overview

Echoes of the Middle Ages.

What is universally known as Carmina Burana is a collection of medieval poetic compositions from which German musician Carl Orff was intensely attracted and from which he managed to extract no less than 24 pieces. Although it came to light during the dark period of Nazism - which criticized some of its erotic overtones in the songs and therefore opposed it - this work became the best known of those created while the shadow of the Third Reich hovered over Europe. “O Fortuna” is undoubtedly the best-known song, but the music journey one takes by attending a show of “Carmina Burana” is a leap back in a time that holds many surprises.
