From 4 to 7 June 2026, Sestri Levante transforms into a sprawling stage where reality and imagination intertwine, bringing the 29th edition of the Andersen Festival to life. It is a much-loved and highly anticipated event on the Italian scene, bringing international artists and shows of all kinds to the heart of Liguria: theatre, music, dance, storytelling and visual performances merge into an immersive experience designed for all ages.
The festival was created in connection with the prestigious Andersen Prize – Baia delle Favole, dedicated to the Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, who found inspiration in Sestri Levante during one of his travels. One of the longest-running and most internationally recognised literary competitions has been running since 1967 and is open to anyone who wants to tell a fairy tale, from writing to illustration.
The theme of the 2026 edition will be the "Present", chosen by the artistic director Duccio Forzano, who is also known for his experience at the Sanremo Festival. An invitation to rediscover the value of truly being present, with attention and awareness, in a time that often slips away and distracts us.
The festival thus becomes not only a moment of entertainment, but also a space for meeting, listening and sharing. Among squares, alleys and views overlooking the sea, the audience will be guided on a journey filled with stories, emotions and wonder.
