Giovanni Boldini. The Seduction of Painting is the new exhibition open from 2 December 2025 to 2 June 2026 at the Cavallerizza in Piazzale Verdi in Lucca.
The exhibition, which celebrates the master portraitist of the Belle Époque, features loans from prestigious public and private collections, including the Uffizi Galleries and the Museo Giovanni Boldini in Ferrara.
A journey through more than 100 works that traces the evolution of the painting of Giovanni Boldini through beauty – above all, female beauty – the focus of a continuous aesthetic quest and a profound psychological exploration.
The exhibition is structured into six sections spanning the artist's entire career: from works of the Florentine period in dialogue with the Macchiaioli, to scenes from the early Paris years, through to the iconic life-size femmes fatales and the fin-de-siècle ambience.
Alongside works by Giovanni Boldini, the exhibition includes works by artists contemporary to him – among them Odoardo Borrani, Vittorio Matteo Corcos, Giuseppe De Nittis, Vincenzo Gemito, Paul César Helleu, Antonio Mancini, Telemaco Signorini and Federico Zandomeneghi – which help to contextualise the figurative art scene between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
The exhibition is produced by Contemplazioni and curated by Tiziano Panconi
