The photographic exhibition 'Winter Games!' presents a selection of photographs dedicated to winter sports, which capture much more than just competition. Taken between the 1930s and the early 1970s, these images depict sport as a lived experience and a shared spectacle, as a space for interaction between bodies, audience and landscape, at a pivotal time in the development of the contemporary visual imagination. The photographs on display come from the LIFE archive, one of the great photographic archives of the 20th century, which has captured gestures, rituals and moments destined to become part of our collective memory. Moments of anticipation, leaps, falls and fleeting instants emerge like closely observed fragments of life, creating a dialogue between the athletic gesture and the time that surrounds it. In the underground spaces of the newly reopened Centro Internazionale di Fotografia – Scavi Scaligeri, in the subterranean heart of Verona, these images encounter a place rich in layers, amplifying the perception of time and transforming the visit into an immersive experience in which the past engages with the present. The exhibition is sponsored by the Municipality of Verona, conceived by Giuseppe Ceroni, curated by Simone Azzoni and produced by Silvana Editoriale in collaboration with PEP Artists and Grenzen – Arsenali Fotografici.
