On the 170th anniversary of the inauguration of the Civic Museum of Palazzo Chiericati, Vicenza celebrates its tradition of generosity with an exhibition dedicated to the recent Colbacchini donation: a group of 51 works, consisting mostly of paintings and drawings, by Venetian and Veneto artists active between the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century.
The Colbacchini collection mainly covers the fertile period of Venetian and lagoon painting in the post-unification era, characterised by the demands of realism and verismo, in dialogue with the most up-to-date national and European proposals: from the Macchiaiola experience to that of the Posillipo Landscape School, passing through the revolutionary French innovations of the Impressionists and even touching on the nocturnal atmospheres of Symbolism.
The exhibition, which inaugurates the renovated rooms on the ground floor of the Museo Civico di Palazzo Chiericati intended for temporary exhibitions, displays 40 works from the donation, together with a selection of drawings from the donor's private collection, with works by Ippolito Caffi, Giacomo Favretto, Luigi Nono, Guglielmo Ciardi, Alessandro Milesi, Pietro Fragiacomo, Bartolomeo Bezzi, Noè Bordignon, Achille Beltrame, Cesare Laurenti, Federico Zandomeneghi, Ettore Tito, Mario De Maria and many other artists of the prolific "season of truth" in Venice and the Veneto region.
