Water transport
22 July 2026 - 26 July 2026

Continent-Island International GPS Race | Wind-powered crossing of the Strait of Messina

From 22 to 26 July 2026, Reggio Calabria will once again be the protagonist of the Mediterranean summer by hosting the Traversata a Vento dello Stretto (Wind-powered Crossing of the Strait), one of the most spectacular international events dedicated to water sports. Now in its 19th edition, the event transforms the Strait of Messina into a unique natural stage, where sea, wind and history meet in a challenge of pure adrenaline.

Kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing, SUP and the increasingly popular WingFoil, the discipline that is revolutionising beaches around the world, will colour the waters off Reggio Calabria with dozens of sails launched at top speed. Crossing the Strait means confronting currents, wind and myth: a test that goes beyond sporting competition, becoming an experience, a story and a spectacle.

The heart of the Crossing will beat between the city centre, brought to life by events, entertainment and moments of togetherness, and the Punta Pellaro Wind Park, a hub for sports and sustainable tourism. Here, athletes and visitors will be able to experience a privileged view of one of the most evocative natural settings in the Mediterranean, in a context that combines sport, innovation and environmental awareness.

With over 165,000 attendees in previous editions, live streaming, international television coverage and an increasingly global audience, the Traversata a Vento dello Stretto (Wind-powered Crossing of the Strait) has established itself as an ambassador of a dynamic, sustainable and outward-looking Calabria, capable of telling its story through the universal language of sport and nature.

The event is organised by NewKiteZone in Punta Pellaro.
