Manciano

Overview

Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club

In the heart of the Maremma, about 35 km from the sea in the southern part of the province of Grosseto, Manciano is the perfect destination for those who love nature, history, well-being and typical products.

The capital is dominated by the Aldobrandesca bazaar, while in the historic centre you can visit the Museum of Prehistory and Protohistory of the Fiora River Valley, the church of San Leonardo and the fountain in Piazza Garibaldi. The hamlet of Montemerano, a few km from the capital, is a medieval jewel surrounded by olive groves, a typical and well-kept village where you can stroll in tranquility visiting Piazza Castello and the church of San Giorgio. Moving a few kilometres further on, one arrives at the hamlet of Saturnia 'one of the oldest towns in Italy' also famous for its precious waters, among the most beneficial in the world. Not to be missed are the renowned Cascate del Mulino waterfalls, free natural pools fed by the thermal waters of the Gorello stream (about 37  C). In their beauty, it is also possible to admire them from the belvedere on the waterfalls, on the road between Montemerano and Saturnia. In the hamlet of Saturnia, the Archaeological Museum and the stretch of the ancient Roman via Clodia are worth a visit. The area of Manciano is also perfect to be discovered by bike, thanks to a network of routes and the possibility of renting vehicles on site.

At the table, don't miss a taste of cheeses (including Pecorino Toscano DOP), wine, oil, saffron and ciaffagnone, the ancestor of crepes. Events that animate the village include the Palio delle Botti at the end of August, the Cellar Festivalthe second weekend of September, the Manciano Street Music Festival held in July as well as the Saturnia Film Festival
