Follina

Overview

Near the Treviso Prealps, nestling amid ancient villages, historical heritage and picturesque foothills, Follina is a small village in the "Alta Marca" of Treviso. This area is within the vine-covered hills of the Prosecco trail, recently recognised as a UNESCO Heritage site.

At the centre of the village is the magnificent Cistercian abbey dedicated to St Mary, with its perfectly-preserved cloisters, bell tower and Abbot's quarters. The monastery, which houses many valuable artworks, is the heart of cultural life in Follina: it is primarily used as a venue for concerts, sometimes with an international reach. Although small in size, the historic centre is home to a number of fine historic buildings such as the Barberis palace.

The area boasts an old tradition of wool and silk making, still practised today in the Paolettiwool factory , which produces fabrics of the highest quality for the fashion market, and in the Serica della Marca silk factory, which is keeping the monks' ancient tradition alive. For lovers of outdoor pursuits, Follina also offersa variety of trails suitable for cycling or mountain biking, horse riding and Nordic walking.

Hungry? The excellent local cheeses and charcuterie are accompanied by the Prosecco DOCG Superiore and the Follina craft beer. The Biancoperla floor is a recognised Slow Food product. Apart from concerts at the abbey, other events on offer include the Primavera del Prosecco, springtime and Christmas markets and road running races.
