Overview
The Festa del Redentore (Feast of the Redeemer) is a festival close to the heart of Venetians, where religion and spectacle comfortably coexist. It is an opportunity to remember the end of the terrible plague that struck Venice between 1575 and 1577.
The “Famous Night” (“Notte Famosissima” as Venetians colloquially call it) is one of the city’s most popular events, promoted by the Comune of Venice and coordinated by Vela S.p.A.
It is an integral part of local customs for the residents of this lagoon city, who still today continue to keep alive the gastronomic traditions, folklore and festivities handed down by their ancestors that have made this very Venetian festival internationally renowned over the years, as well as one of the city’s biggest tourist attractions.
Fireworks attract thousands of visitors. A play of lights and reflections on the inimitable stage that is St Mark’s Basin create a kaleidoscope of colours behind the spires, domes and bell towers of the city.
