Overview
Among the mountains of Carnia, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, visitors can admire an extraordinary exhibition of nativity scenes of various sizes and styles. More than 100 nativity scenes, mainly made of wood but also crafted from other materials, are displayed in the open air—in courtyards, under the arcades of the village’s characteristic historic houses, in small squares, and along stone-paved alleyways. The entire village is festively decorated with large Christmas trees made from recycled wood by local artisans, as well as lights, wreaths, and Christmas arrangements. The exhibition is accompanied by a rich calendar of events, ranging from folklore to gastronomy, which enliven the village throughout the holiday season. Age-old gestures and customs are revived, and visitors can enjoy the most traditional Christmas dishes and drinks.
