The Museo Novecento in Florence presents Baselitz. AVANTI! (25 March–13 September 2026), a major exhibition dedicated to Georg Baselitz, created in collaboration with the artist's studio. The exhibition, spread over three floors, brings together around 170 works including engravings, paintings and sculptures, with a special focus on engraving, a central but lesser-known aspect of his work. The exhibition covers more than sixty years of his work, highlighting the radical nature of his language and the famous practice of inverting images, which challenges the viewer's perception. Born in 1938 in pre-war Germany, Baselitz made destruction and historical crisis the starting point for a profound renewal of the figurative tradition. The exhibition also highlights the strong link between the recently deceased artist and Florence, a city that was fundamental to his development, where he stayed in the 1960s and 1970s and returned several times until his solo exhibition at Palazzo Vecchio in 1988.
