On 10 and 11 May 2026, Montelupone, a hillside village in the province of Macerata, will host the Artichoke Festival, an event dedicated to one of the iconic products of the local agricultural tradition and one of the most eagerly anticipated food events of the spring in the Marche region. Established in 1961, over the years the festival has become a highly popular event that draws visitors and food and wine enthusiasts to the heart of the Marche hinterland.
For two days, the village's streets and squares come alive with food stalls and activities centred around the Montelupone artichoke, a Slow Food Presidium and a local variety prized for its delicate flavour, tender texture and lack of thorns. During the event, visitors can sample a wide range of specialities prepared according to traditional recipes and creative reinterpretations: from appetisers to first courses, side dishes and other offerings that showcase this typical local ingredient. The tastings are often accompanied by wines from the Marche region, thereby providing an opportunity to discover the authentic flavours of the Macerata hinterland.
Alongside the tastings, the village comes alive with live music, shows and events focusing on local culture. The streets and squares become places for socialising and celebration, with activities designed for children as well and entertainment available to visitors throughout the event. During the festival, it is also possible to buy fresh artichokes directly from local producers.
Organised by the Pro Loco di Montelupone with the support of the municipality, the Artichoke Festival is also an opportunity to discover the village and the hilly landscape of the Marche region, with its farming traditions, local products and culinary culture.
