Raoul Dufy The Painter of Joy

Overview

Painting, subjects and bright colors become protagonists in Rome, of the first major exhibition in Italy, dedicated to the great artist Raoul Dufy, promoted by the Terzo Pilastro Foundation.

Born into a family of modest economic conditions, Dufy moved to Paris in 1901 where he immersed himself in an extraordinarily stimulating artistic environment.

His artistic endeavors involved all the decorative arts, from xylography to painting and graphics, ceramics to fabrics, illustrations to scenography.

Dufy was a great French painter, set designer and draftsman of the early 1900s. With his ability to create atmospheres, colors and light, he contributed to changing public taste by applying his innovations and vivacity to all the decorative arts.

The exhibition, curated by Sophie Krebs, (general curator of the Parisian museum's heritage) traces the entire artistic career of one of the greats, straddling Impressionism and Fauvism, exhibiting 160 works from the most important public and private French collections.
