Overview
After the great success of 2022 and recognition as 'the largest sailing race in the world' by the Guinness Book of Records, Barcolana returns with a new edition. This time the spotlight is on the sea and the environment, while gathering all sailing enthusiasts in Trieste, turning the city into the international capital of sailing.
The famous regatta will be held in full sail from 29 September to 8 October 2023, starting at 10.00 am on Sunday 8 October. The course is a quadrangle with fixed vertices positioned in the Gulf of Trieste, with a total length of 13 nautical miles.
The Piazza dell'Unità and the waterfront will be the beating heart of the Barcolana Village, with exhibition spaces, activities open to the public, info points and temporary stores to host the sponsors of the regatta, nautical products and services, and crews. The charming Piazza Unità d'Italia, Europe's largest square open to the sea, will be transformed in the evening into a stage for entertainment and shows.
The new Trieste Convention Center (TCC) will host the Barcolana Sea Summit a platform for scientific institutions, businesses, public administrations and NGOs to talk about the current health status of the Mediterranean Sea.
