From 23 to 27 September 2026, the Festival del Medioevo returns to Gubbio for its 12th edition. This event dedicated to medieval history and culture is entitled “The Time of Francis. Homo homini lupus” and is dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi, 800 years after his death.
For five days, Gubbio becomes an important meeting place for history enthusiasts, scholars and curious visitors, with lectures, talks, in-depth discussions and cultural events dedicated to the Middle Ages. The 2026 programme brings together numerous medieval historians, scholars, writers, philosophers and other leading figures from Italian and international culture.
The theme of the 2026 edition takes visitors back to the dawn of the 13th century and the decades that followed, exploring the life of Francis of Assisi and his relationship with Gubbio, a city closely connected to his human and spiritual journey. The festival offers a fascinating journey through history, exploring the people, ideas, events and transformations that shaped the Middle Ages.
The Festival del Medioevo in Gubbio is therefore a unique opportunity to discover medieval history through a rich programme of talks and distinguished guests, set against the evocative backdrop of one of Italy’s cities most closely associated with the medieval era.
