Overview
On 21st June 2023, the whole of Italy prepares to celebrate the 29th Festa della Musica (Music Festival).
Similar to festivals in other European countries, this event involves the entire nation, sending that message of culture, participation, integration, harmony and universality that only music can convey. Parks, museums, places of worship, prisons, embassies, hospitals, cultural centres, railway stations, subways, and above all the streets and squares of Italy will create the stunning setting for the Festival.
It is a major event involving local authorities, academies, conservatories, music schools and universities. Not forgetting the soloists, choirs, orchestras and bands – everyone who makes music, including both professionals and amateurs.
From north to south and including the Italian islands, the Festival will burst into life in the most magical places in Italy.
Hosting such an ambitious project, which aims to become a regular event, requires everyone to get involved.
Anyone can perform in the streets and squares of Italy, playing instruments or singing, alone or in a group, planned in advance or on the spur of the moment. The true spirit of the festival is precisely the public, spontaneous performance of anyone who makes music for fun, or the more ambitious musicians wanting to make the most of the opportunity to be noticed.
All associations, schools, clubs, discos and bookshops that play music regularly or occasionally are invited to take a space in their city to make music and encourage music to be made. The festival ends with organised concerts, simply as a final opportunity to bring everyone together, with spontaneous performances remaining the true heart of the event.
