10 December 2022 - 11 December 2022

Audi FIS Ski World Cup Sestriere

Sestriere will once again be the star of the Alpine Skiing World Cup, reaffirming the strong competitive vocation of the Vialattea slopes.

The date has been set for Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 December 2022 – an entire weekend dedicated to women’s technical disciplines.

The women’s giant slalom will be held on the first day, with the women’s slalom on the following day.

The aim is to promote and engage the territory to portray the best image of Piedmont and its mountains, making the most of this unique opportunity to show the world what the host region can offer, in terms of sports and tourism in general.

The best international athletes will compete on the legendary Kandahar Giovanni Alberto Agnelli, a spectacular slope that has hosted many great sporting events, adding to the excitement and heightened emotions. This year, a fantastic novelty awaits the athletes who arrive at Colle Sestriere to take part in the two races: the new six-seater chairlift at Cit Roc. This ultramodern, high-tech, high-performance facility serves the racecourse, improving service and increasing the hourly flow rate.

This new chairlift will pick up the baton and become the new emblem of the ski resort. It is the perfect present to celebrate this significant 90th anniversary and to welcome the athletes to Colle Sestriere to take on this new challenge.

Compared to previous editions, the starting point has been raised from 2,220 to 2,250 metres above sea level. It was decided that the men’s starting point will be used for the first time, adding a rather steep initial section that makes the course more technical and challenging, to make the competition even more spectacular and to better meet the difficulty levels of the most internationally renowned World Cup courses. The finish line was therefore also raised, removing part of the sloping ground in the final section of the course.

In the race finish area, there is a grandstand with over 750 seats, a hospitality tent for accredited guests, and a sponsor village with several stands to entertain the public before and after the races. The streets of Colle Sestriere will also be brought to life by cheerful structures set up especially for the event.

The town’s central square, Piazza Fraiteve, will be the focal point on Saturday afternoon, hosting the awards ceremony for the first race, the giant slalom, and the presentation of the athletes for the second race, the slalom: a unique opportunity to see the champions up close and watch the spectacular Laser Show that will close the ceremony with coloured beams of light immersed in a celebratory atmosphere.

Just like for the 2020 edition, attendees will get to admire the spectacular Video Mapping display projected onto the racetrack, with exciting plays of light and colour, scheduled on Friday and Saturday evening.

It will be a great weekend of festivities and merriment at the Vialattea ski resort. Various side events will frame the event to give the champions a warm welcome and involve as many mountain sports and winter sports enthusiasts as possible. Colours, lights, music and a whole host of entertainment will be an integral part of the two-day programme and will engage the entire local area, from the finish-line parterre to the village streets, from the squares to the bars.
