The Turin International Book Fair once again returns to the halls of the Lingotto Fiere Torino convention centre from Thursday 18th to Monday 22nd May. After last spring’s fantastic turnout, five days are planned for this year to celebrate thirty-five years of stories, narrated by Italian and international authors, edited by numerous publishers, and read by a multitude of readers.
The Book Fair is continually growing and expanding, with the sole aim of creating an increasingly welcoming space for visitors. This year, it will exceed a total of 110,000 square metres, thanks to the addition of a new area.
The theme of this 35th edition is “Through the looking glass”. With this homage to the brilliant universe of British author Lewis Carroll, the Book Fair invites its community of readers to take a leap into new worlds, exploring them with their feet firmly on the ground and in the present, but with their head caught up in the pages.
The full programme of Through the looking glass will be made available to the public in April, with the traditional pre-inauguration event organised in collaboration with Rai Radio3 scheduled for the evening of Wednesday 17th May. A variety of authors from all over the world will attend this event in Turin.
This year marks one hundred years since Italo Calvino’s birth. This Italian writer will be remembered at the Book Fair through specific initiatives organised in collaboration with the Mondadori publishing house.
The Book Fair would not be the same without the community of the youngest readers, including children, teenagers and young adults, who have grown up around novels and stories. After the last few years, it is crucial for the Book Fair to once again welcome all school groups wanting to take part. To date, over 4,000 students from 207 classes from across 11 different Italian regions have already booked to travel to Lingotto in May.
Finally, almost 500 young people will play active and important roles at the Book Fair: bloggers, activity organisers of reading groups and libraries, activists, and volunteers dedicated to welcoming classes, the public and supporting the management of the Book Fair.
