Porte Aperte Festival Cremona

Overview

The PAF is a cultural event that takes place on an early summer weekend in Cremona, during which the public can attend free events with writers and illustrators, listen to concerts, artistic performances and literary readings, participate in workshops and round tables, and visit exhibitions and much more.

The initiative is made possible thanks to the involvement of many organisations that are active in the Cremona region in different capacities, including institutions, schools, grassroots groups, members of associations and the local artistic and cultural scene.

More than 60 events in 3 days, distributed over as many locations in the historical centre of Cremona, produce a festival that is intentionally spread over a large portion of the city, enhancing squares, churchyards, courtyards, cloisters, gardens and corners of the historical centre that are less well-known to the general public, to rediscover unusual parts of Cremona and convey the idea of an open and welcoming city.

The places chosen for the individual events – of which there is one every hour – are located within the demolished seventeenth-century city walls, which until the beginning of the last century featured the presence of bastions and gates (Porta San Luca, Porta Ognissanti, Porta Margherita, Porta Po and Porta Mosa, among others), some of which dated back to the thirteenth century, while others were rebuilt during the nineteenth century, and were then regrettably demolished at the beginning of the twentieth century.
