Villa Nani Mocenigo

Overview

Different eras in a single villa

The most important historical and artistic monument in Canda, a village rich in history and culturally significant buildings. Villa Nani Mocenigo was built starting in 1580 by Venetian nobles. The building is composed of two sections, with arches and columns, architectural cornices and decorations, making this villa truly unique

The façade, in Baroque style, is quite spectacular. The villa originally housed wonderful frescoes and furniture worthy of a musem, but unfortunately the interior of the mansion was damaged by a fire in 1946 and many traces of its glorious past were destroyed.

The English-style park surrounded by walls, embellished with statues of mythological subjects dating back to the 18th century, is beautiful. A delightful chapel from the 16th century also stands in the park.

The villa and the park are currently owned by the Banca di San Marino, so it is not possible to visit the interior, but you can admire the huge, spectacular staircase, or the statues lining the surrounding wall, from the bars of the gate.
