Piazzola sul Brenta

Overview

Exploring Palladian architecture

A small municipality in the province of Padua, Piazzola sul Brenta lies near the banks of the river it is named after.
Its main attraction is Villa Contarini, a residence built for the Contarini family. Although the origins of the building are uncertain, its central core was likely designed by architect Andrea Palladio.
Over the years, the villa underwent renovations and saw many changes of ownership until it was acquired by the wealthy Camerini business family in the mid-19th century, who restored it to its original splendour.

Opposite the residence is Piazza Paolo Camerini, which not only boasts the Palladian Loggias, an admirable feat of architecture, but also hosts the renowned “Mercatino delle cose d’altri tempi” antiques market every last Sunday of the month, which also attracts visitors from neighbouring towns.
