Overview
A former coaching inn in the Dolomites
The Pra family has run the Hotel alla Posta in Alleghe for 6 generations, that is, for over 150 years. This area has always been an important crossroads – the point where Italy met the Habsburg Empire.
The hotel was once a coaching inn where horses were changed on long journeys. This was also the starting point for the first mountain guides who led adventurous travellers to the peaks of the Dolomites.
During the Great War, the hotel was the operational headquarters of the supreme command led by Generals Cadorna, La Croix and Peppino Garibaldi. It was much loved by writers such as Carducci, Stoppani and Buzzati who praised its old-fashioned charm.
Today, you can enjoy the cosy rooms overlooking the mountains, and savour traditional recipes in the two restaurants and delights from the on-site patisserie. In summer, set off from here for hikes up the Marmolada, mountain bike tours along the Val Fiorentina or a walk through the gorges. In winter, head to the slopes of the Civetta and Tre Valli. And after your outdoor exertions, take a dip in the swimming pool in the wellness area, treat yourself to a rejuvenating break in the sauna or enjoy an aromatic steam bath.
