Parish Church of Sant'Agata (Sant'Agata)

Overview

It is of very ancient origin, although the first known document dates back to the year 984 and its appearance dates back to the second half of the 12th century. The exterior is simple and square, the interior is structured around six high pillars on which the gabled roof rests directly. It houses a baptismal enclosure consisting of seven inlaid panels joined by variously carved frames, made in 1608 using elements of the old medieval pulpit damaged in the 1542 earthquake, the reliquary altar of St Agatha and a 1383 panel by Jacopo di Cione depicting the "Madonna and Child".
