Overview
The Spedale del Ceppo Museum is located in the historic-monumental part of the former hospital complex. According to tradition, it was founded in 1277 and performed medical functions for more than seven centuries, until the construction of the new San Jacopo hospital, south of the city, was completed in 2013. Inside the ancient hospital, a museum tour recounts the historical, architectural and artistic events, reserving an in-depth section for the characteristic Robbia frieze in polychrome glazed terracotta, which extends over the external loggia, one of the best known and most symbolic works of Pistoia Renaissance sculpture.
