Big news this year for the return of the Internazionali di Tennis BNL in Rome from8 to 21 May 2023
While the ATP and WTA points remain the same (1000 to the winner, 600 to the finalist, 360 to the semifinalists and so on) everything else changes and becomes much bigger, more important, more spectacular as the tournament lists go from 56 to 96 participants and the number of competition days increases from 7 to 12 (plus two qualifying days). The women's tournament will start on Tuesday 9 May (qualifying from Monday 8) and will end on Saturday 20 May The men's competition will start on Wednesday 10 ( qualifying from Monday 8) and is scheduled for the finals for Sunday 21 May.
The middle days, the ones with the maximum number of stars in the field, will no longer be the Wednesday and Thursday of the final week, but the weekend in between (Saturday 13 and Sunday 14, with day and evening sessions) or even better the long weekend, 4 days, from Friday 11 May to Monday 15).
The central weekend of the tournament, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 , will become a great festival of tennis, with daytime and evening sessions, filling both the Central Court and Grand Stand Arena programme and the Pietrangeli court, which can be accessed with a Ground ticket, with highly technical and spectacular matches.
The novelty of the Super-Saturday (20 May) with men's semifinals and women's finals: what stands out most is bringing the women's final forward to Saturday evening (the evening programme includes the WTA singles and doubles titles), creating a true Super Saturday at theForo Italico: in the afternoon the men's semi-finals (day session), in the evening the women's highlights. The final day, Sunday 21 , will be all about the ATP finals, the singles and doubles.
The Internazionali BNL d'Italia in 2023 is one of the Masters 1000 tournaments for which the ATP has planned a further step up in quality (Upgrade), putting them on a par with the two American Masters 1000s traditionally held in March between California and Florida, the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments.
