Vinci

Overview

Perched around the castle that, since its foundation around the year 1000 at the behest of the Counts Guidi, has been the heart of the village, Vinci is certainly known as the birthplace of one of the greatest men ever: Leonardo. Everything here tells his story, his genius, the events of his life. Not to be missed, in order to discover some of the master's works, is the Leonardo Museum and Library, housed in the Counts Guidi fortress: here a vast and precious collection of models of Leonardo's inventions is kept, including a projection apparatus, a helicopter, a parachute, hydraulic and military machines, all accompanied by drawings and handwritten notes by the artist. In the hamlet of Anchiano, you can also visit the house where he was born, and then wander through the alleys and countryside, losing yourself in the same landscapes that were scrutinised by the eyes of the great Leonardo.
