Baptistery of St John

Overview

The Baptistery is part of the complex of museums and monuments of the Opera Primaziale Pisana and is therefore accessible to the public. Inside, valuable works of art can be seen. You can go up to the women's galleries on the first floor, from where you can admire the Piazza dei Miracoli.
Within the monumental complex, the Baptistery represents a fundamental stage in the Christian's journey, which begins with Baptism, passes through the awareness of everyday life (the cathedral) and ends with post-mortem rest (the cemetery). All this is concentrated in the space of the Piazza dei Miracoli, which includes sumptuous architectural masterpieces.
