Escher on display in Florence

Overview

Over 200 works including some of the most representative of the brilliant Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher will be hosted in a single exhibition venue, in the historic Museo degli Innocenti: originally to exhibit artwork of the ancient Hospital home for children, with the collaboration of Arthemisia, it has become a point of reference in the Tuscan capital, and today hosts this great exhibition dedicated to one of the most loved artists in the world.

Restless, reserved and undoubtedly brilliant, Escher was born in Holland in 1898. His many years in Italy greatly influenced his art which became like a container where art, mathematics, science, physics and design converge.

His most iconic works, Hand with a Reflecting Sphere (1935), Bond of Union (1956), Metamorphosis II (1939), Day and Night (1938) and the Emblemata series, now part of popular imagination.

Formed with the patronage of the Municipality of Florence, the Dutch Embassy, the exhibition is produced and organized by Arthemisia in collaboration with the M. C. Escher Foundation, Maurits and In Your Event, and curated by Mark Veldhuysen – CEO of the M.C. Escher Company – and Federico Giudiceandrea, one of the most important Escher experts in the world.
