Overview
An ancient and prestigious boutique in the heart of Florence
With a history spanning over 800 years, the Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella dates back to 1221, making it the oldest pharmacy in the world. On this date, the Dominican Friars established the convent of Santa Maria Novella in Florence and began growing a monastic garden and botanical garden. In 1334, merchant Dardano Acciaioli, a member of one of the city’s most powerful families, was healed by the medicines of the Dominican Friars. As a sign of gratitude, he donated to them the Chapel of San Nicolò, in the heart of Florence, now converted into a boutique-museum.
Thanks to experience gained over the centuries, the high quality of the products sold by Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica are recognised around the world. You can purchase numerous beauty products, including balms, ointments, perfumes and soaps, ideal for personal care. Their most renowned product is Acqua della Regina, a perfume linked to Catherine de’ Medici, who commissioned the creation of a new fragrance in 1533 to celebrate her marriage to the future king of France, Henry II of Valois.
