Overview
The museum preserves an extensive collection of paintings and sculptures belonging to the Tuscan figurative culture, covering a time span ranging from the end of the 18th century to the period between the two world wars. The exhibition itinerary shows the evolution of Tuscan art, starting from the neoclassical, romantic and purist period, focused on historical themes, to arrive at the anti-academic reform of the Macchiaioli, based on a painting made of spots of color and contrasts of light with an attention to the subjects of nature and daily life. The path ends with the expressions of decadence, symbolism, post-impressionism and divisionism. Among the various artists present are: F. Hayez, S. Lega, T. Signorini, G. Fattori, C. Pissarro, M. Rosso, G. Boldini and P. Nomellini.
