From 28 March to 27 September 2026, Palazzo Pepoli will host the exhibition 'Frida Kahlo. The Gaze as Identity', which displays 70 original photographs by renowned photographers such as Nickolas Muray and Leo Matiz.
Rather than offering a straightforward visual biography, the exhibition examines how the artist actively influenced the way she was portrayed, transforming her body into a powerful tool for storytelling and myth-making.
Through a diverse and multifaceted collection of images, the exhibition invites the public to reflect on issues such as identity and self-representation, going beyond the concept of the modern commercial icon. Rather than seeking a single truth, the exhibition explores Frida's ability to shape the way others see her, leaving visitors to interpret the complex relationship between her public image and her innermost essence.
