Overview
The abbey consists of the third-century church, the monastery and a bell tower. It is said that Francis sought refuge here after suffering an attack in the Caprignone area. He was met with great suspicion for appearing in poor conditions and extreme poverty, Francis was even employed as the prior's scullery hand. It was only after the Rule was recognised, that Francis was welcomed lovingly and often into the abbey.
