De' Ricci Cantine Storiche in Montepulciano

Overview

Experience the world’s most beautiful wine cellars

A small medieval village that is famous for its beauty and food and wine heritage, Montepulciano has the honour of hosting one of the most evocative and historic wine cellars in all of Tuscany. Cantine De’ Ricci has a centuries-long history that will captivate any visitor, not just lovers of good wine.

There are two entrances through which you can access the cellar, although we recommend you go through Via Ricci: you enter the cellar via a monumental staircase that leads to the imposing underground room, the round arches and cross vaults of which are reminiscent of a Roman-Gothic cathedral. Silence prevails and the tuffaceous soil in which the cellar is dug, combined with careful ventilation, allow the wine to be kept at a constant temperature and humidity all year round.

Inside the enormous Slavonian oak barrels, as tradition dictates, lies the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. It is possible to book a visit to Cantine De’ Ricci with a tasting, accompanied by delicious snacks prepared with local products.
