Castel Valér

Overview

A journey through time among towers, “stube” and loggias

As you walk through the apple orchards around Tassullo, in Val di Non, you will come across a massive octagonal tower. It is the highest in Trentino and is part of the Castel Valer castle. If you arrive by car, you can park in the village, near Piazza Carlo Antonio Pilati, from which it is a 15-minute walk, surrounded by greenery. Any visitors with walking difficulties can drive there directly.

To take a look inside, from April to November you can book a guided tour, which takes about an hour and a half. You cannot explore the fortress on your own, since the castle is still inhabited by the Spaur family. On Sundays at 10am, there are guided tours for children, which are ideal for families. If you have a four-legged friend, you will be asked to leave them outside.

Your journey back in time begins by watching a brief, ten-minute video. You will then be taken through the inner courtyards, gardens and the chapel of San Valerio, where you can admire the frescoes by Giovanni and Battista Baschenis. Then you will move on to the Madruzzi rooms, the “stube” (Alpine kitchens), the Gothic kitchen, the loggia, the Sala degli Stemmi hall and the impressive Salone Ulrico hall.

Are you dreaming of a fairy-tale location for your wedding or other celebration? Various events can be organised at Castel Valder on request.
