Bardolino

Overview

Good wine and endless attractions

Immersed in colours, scents and flavours, Bardolino is among the most popular destinations on Lake Garda, thanks to its beautiful lakeside promenades, flower-filled streets, and olive groves and vineyards dotting the hillsides. Not forgetting the traditional flavours that make it world-famous, such as the prized extra virgin olive oil PDO, its namesake red wine and a delicate rosé. But that’s not all! Bardolino boasts an ancient and fascinating history and hosts many interesting cultural events.

Evidence of its origins can be found in the prehistoric traces of a pile-dwelling civilisation in the lower Garda area. There are also archaeological finds dating back to Roman times, such as the Church of San Severo. Don’t miss the old town centre with its typical fishermen’s houses, Castle, most likely commissioned by Berengar, King of Italy, and Church of San Zeno, among Italy’s most important Carolingian monuments.

Among the most famous events is the Palio del Chiaretto. Held every year in May, it celebrates the area’s gastronomic and cultural heritage. Another unmissable event is the Grape and Wine Festival in late September and October.
