Overview
The abbey was built by the Benedictine friars and always represented a haven for the pilgrims who found hospitality there. For two centuries, the hermitage was home to a sole monk at any one time, until it was incorporated into the Chapter House of the Canons of Gubbio in 1463. The complex was renovated in the 1990s and is still inhabited today, welcoming tourists, walkers and pilgrims following in the footsteps of Francis.
