Overview
The Versiliana Park is located between Marina di Pietrasanta and Forte dei Marmi and stretches over approximately 80 hectares of centuries-old woodland, with more than a thousand meters of frontage along the coast. An integral part of life in Marina di Pietrasanta, it is considered the green lung of Versilia.
Walking along its paths, one can discover a great variety of natural landscapes: from ancient dunes covered with holm oaks and pines to sunny clearings where the elegant hoopoe can be spotted, while along the waterways live turtles and moorhens.
An icon of the pine forest is the Ponte del Principe (Prince’s Bridge), named in honor of Grand Duke of Tuscany Leopold II of Habsburg-Lorraine. The park also includes the villa of the same name, built in 1886, while the name “Versiliana” is attributed to the writer Renato Fucini.
The park's history is also intertwined with the cultural ferment of the early 20th century, when poet Gabriele D’Annunzio, inspired by the mysterious charm of the place, composed "La pioggia nel pineto" ("The Rain in the Pinewood").
Every summer, the grounds near the villa host the renowned La Versiliana Festival, which features a rich calendar of cultural events, from concerts and book presentations to theatrical performances and dance shows.
