On 24 May, Scarperia will once again be adorned with flowers for the 45th Infiorata.
The streets and squares of the town’s historic centre will be covered with artworks painted using colours found in nature (the hues of carnations and the green and brown shades of leaves), creating a striking and unique view of the ancient mediaeval village.
For the 45th edition, the theme will be 'Collodi and the Adventures of Pinocchio', an edition that celebrates Carlo Lorenzini, known as Collodi, on the occasion of the bicentenary of his birth.
Preparations for the Infiorata begin some time in advance and involve many local residents. Once the theme has been chosen and the design drawn on paper, the motif is traced in chalk on the paving stones in the streets and squares. The evening before, the flowers are prepared and their petals are removed, and the following morning, on the day of the Infiorata, a layer of glue is applied to the surface of the design. Finally, the petals are patiently and carefully arranged, allowing the public to observe this creative work.
The event will take place in Via Roma and in the two main squares: Piazza Clasio and Piazza dei Vicari. The designs will be created by the Via Roma district and the Scarperia Primary and Secondary Schools district.
Free admission.
