Overview
In the heart of the Casentino Forest National Park, the village is popular with mountain tourism enthusiasts but is above all linked to the Sanctuary of St. Francis of Verna, which has been welcoming pilgrims and walkers for centuries and attracting visitors. The remains of an old 10th century castle overlook the village. The castle belonged to the Cattani family, the family to which Count Orlando belonged, who in 1213 donated the Verna mountain to the future Saint Francis.
