Head to Fano for the oldest sweetest Carnival in Italy

Fano, a town in the Marche region in the province of Pesaro Urbino, will be covered in color and candy on the Sundays of February 5th, 12th and 19th. Over 18000 KGs of sweets, chocolates and much more supplied by the Italian company Dulciar will give life to the traditional sweet storm "Toss", the historic throwing of sweets from decorated floats.

The event holds the record of being "Italy's oldest Carnival" documented in a manuscript of 1347. It will be introduced by the official mascot character, the Vulón, who is entrusted with the task of ferrying us towards the future, helping us to address important issues with necessary lightness and fun.

This will be the theme shared across the 4 main floats that will tell us about Steampunk (fantastic fiction), pop art, and poetry from Dante to Alda Merini. There will also be a tribute to Pink Floyd's album "The dark side of the moon" for the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its publication.

The big parades will also have smaller floats and various costumed characters which will help make the event even more colorful.

The captivating evening fashion shows will enliven the Fano nights of February 11th and 17th with lots of music, colors and special guests.

The Fano Carnival also caters for the little ones with its morning parades, February 5th, 12th and 19th. Hundreds of students from the city's schools will parade in costumes made over the course of the year.

Furthermore, during the first parade on February 5th, schools from the areas affected by last September’s floods will be welcomed in the hope of giving the young students a day of celebration.

Like every year since 1923, the extravagant street band Musica Arabita (“Arrabbiata”) will accompany the parades playing the most bizarre, wacky instruments such as cowbells, coffee pots, large pots, umbrellas, tongs and the list goes on.

The program also includes exhibitions, book presentations and conferences that will take place inside the Palazzo del Carnevale (Palazzo Bracci Pagani) for the entire duration of the event.

A blaze of lights, colors, music, sweets, culture and art: in short, it’s an event not to be missed!!!
