Overview
Casarsa is best known for its connection with Pier Paolo Pasolini, one of the most significant poets, film directors, and intellectuals of twentieth-century Italy. It is precisely in the places most closely linked to Pasolini’s memories—namely in the small hamlet of Versuta—that the oldest artistic evidence in the municipal area can be found: the little church of Sant’Antonio Abate preserves fragments of fourteenth-century frescoes as well as early Renaissance paintings. In the main town, meanwhile, the church of Santa Croce houses frescoes by Pomponio Amalteo.
The abundance of water in the area has always favored viticulture, traditionally practiced here by small landowners who, in 1931, came together to form the cooperative of the La Delizia social winery, which is still active today.
