Mattia Moreni. From the Regression of the Species to the Humanoid

From 1 March to 3 May 2026, the spaces of the MAR – Museo d’Arte della Città di Ravenna will host Mattia Moreni. Dalla regressione della specie e all’umanoide, an exhibition celebrating the work of one of the most important Italian painters of the 20th century.

The exhibition at the MAR is the final event in an extensive project curated by Claudio Spadoni, which brings together five major museums in Romagna with a series dedicated to Mattia Moreni, an artist who, after long periods in Paris, linked his name to the Romagna region, where he lived from the 1970s onwards.

The series Dalla regressione della specie e all’umanoide represent the final stages of the research into one of the most original and restless figures in late 20th-century Italian art. The exhibition at the MAR – curated by Serena Simoni – brings together around thirty works in two sections to present the artist’s output from the early 1980s to 1999, the year of his death.

These two sections of works are followed by a third section featuring photographs and documents that highlight the interest shown by numerous Italian and international critics in his work.
