Fiumalbo

Overview

Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club

On the Modena Apennines on the border between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany, Fiumalbo, like the other Orange Flag village of Fanano, is also located at the foot of the Mount Cimone but on the opposite side. The area, rich in water, is characterised by luxuriant nature, with oak forests, chestnut and beech woods and extensive meadows.

The village has retained its medieval character with cobbled streets, stone houses and roofs partly still made of slate. The historic centre is developed around the Church of St Bartholomew from the 13th century. Worth a visit is the Oratory of San Rocco, on the outskirts of the country, the Oratory of the Immaculate Conception and of St Catherine, which houses the Museum of Sacred Art. In the surrounding area, the Celtic huts are interesting and evocative with the traditional 'ladder' roof structure, testifying to the passage of the Celtic population in these areas.

Among the typical products, dairy products stand out: try the cheeses of the Campo delle Sore farm (also an educational farm) like raw milk pecorino cheese, goat's milk cheese and whole milk yoghurt.
