Miglierina

Overview

In the Calabrian hinterland, straddling the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Ionian Sea, on a hill from which enchanting views can be admired, rises Miglierina: here, in fact, the gaze can reach the Gulf of Squillace and the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia, even reaching to see the Aeolian Islands and Stromboli when the air is particularly clear. There are two ancient and evocative churches in the village: one dedicated to Saint Lucia, the village's patron saint, and one to the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary. Miglierina is, however, first and foremost a village of skilled artisans, historically known as Mastri Miglierinesi, who had great success from the mid-eighteenth century to the early twentieth century: the works of the Master Woodworkers, Master Gunsmiths and Master Plasterers remain today, a historical and cultural heritage of immense value. Finally, the traditional use of the frame is still alive, an experience that also travellers can try.
