Overview
Enclosed by mighty medieval walls, Monte Santa Maria Tiberina is a place where it is still possible to relive the ancient medieval atmosphere, strolling through the narrow cobbled streets and stone houses, reminders of an era long past. The heart of the village is the castle, dating back to the 16th century, but also worth a visit is the parish church of Santa Maria, with the crypt-sepolcro of the Bourbon del Monte family. The real protagonist is the landscape: from the village, the gaze sweeps over the ancient roads of the Etruscans, over the centuries-old chestnut woods, as far as the Apuan Alps and, on particularly clear days, the Gran Sasso d'Abruzzo. And at this point, with a heart full of enchantment, all that remains is to try the local cuisine, where the flavours are genuine and tell of the close bond that unites the village to the land, including porcini mushrooms, chestnuts and black truffles, perhaps accompanied by a good glass of red wine.
