State Road 222 Chiantigiana

Overview

From wine to oil in the hills of Chiantigiana

Both Etruscan and Romans used this road before it became the battleground between Florence and Siena, still the Chiantigiana road is the best way to discover the beautiful Tuscan landascape, its wines and the delicious olive oils produced here. It is the Chianti Classico Wine Route that crosses the so-called land of the Black Rooster, the symbol found on all the bottles of Chianti Classico produced here.

Among the gentle hills covered with vineyards and olive groves are ancient villages, parishes and castles. You travel between rows of Sangiovese as far as the eye can see, here and there interrupted by woods and olive groves. The route winds through the villages of Chiantigiana and touches numerous wineries where you can stop to taste the Chianti Classico DOCG wine, the Vinsanto and the extra virgin olive oil cold pressed.

Do not miss a tour through the villages, such as Greve in Chianti with a beautiful triangular square that hosts a weekly market where you can buy local products. From Radda in Chianti you will see a magnificent panorama. In Castellina in Chianti visit the Rocca and the nearby Etruscan tombs.
