Predazzo

Overview

The Geological Garden of the Alps

A mountain centre in Val di Fiemme, Predazzo boasts the highest concentration of geological varieties in the world and is also a popular tourist destination.

The historic centre is filled with old wooden and masonry buildings. Such as the Church of St. Philip and St. James, built between 1866 and 1870 in neo-Gothic style, or the small Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, built in the 18th century for wayfarers and woodcutters. In perfect Fiemme style is Casa Morandini, rich in Baroque architectural elements and lively frescoes.

To learn about the history of the Dolomites, visit the Geological-Ethnographic Museum, housing numerous local palaeontological and mineralogical samples, and is a window on the material culture and customs of Predazzo.

Among the more recent attractions is the Ski Jumping Stadium, a facility that has hosted several Nordic World Ski Championships.

To finish, a nice walk in one of the symbols of Predazzo: the “Bosco che suona”, an enchanted place, enlivened by fir trees “baptised” by internationally renowned musicians, which can be reached from the village by following Valmaggiore.
