Messer Tulipano

Overview

Tulips on the castle grounds

In Turin, spring means it’s time for Messer Tulipano. This event has been held every year since 2000 in the grounds of Castello di Pralormo, from April to May, depending on when the tulips flower.

The castle is located about 30 kilometres from Turin and is home to 100,000 flowers including daffodils and tulips which bloom every spring in the garden designed in the 19th century by Xavier Kurten, architect to the Savoy court.

A curious collection of black tulips stands out from its colourful siblings, and there is an area dedicated to lily-flowered tulips, fringed tulips, parrot tulips and viridiflora tulips. Each year, a specific theme is chosen to create a spectacular backdrop to your photos.

The event involves students and experts in botany, who work alongside artists and designers to explore the theme from different perspectives. The castle grounds include a cafe, benches where you can sit and enjoy the view, a picnic area and shop selling flowers, plants and local products. It is also possible to visit the castle and discover its elegant rooms as well as hidden aspects including the servants’ quarters.
