Frosolone

Overview

Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club

In a hilly landscape rich in woodland, meadows and lakes, dotted with rocks of unusual shapes and sizes, you will find Frosolone, an ancient village standing on a promontory surrounded on three sides by rocky slopes.

The medieval old town is criss-crossed by a maze of narrow alleys, in the middle of which you can admire the fine architecture of the Baron's Palace with its Renaissance balconies and the baroque Church of Our Lady of Grace, which contains two important paintings by Gacinto Diana.

Since ancient times, Frosolone has been known for the artistic and artisanal production of steel. Named the "town of knives", this artisanal tradition is preserved at the Museum of cutting implements and in the small family-owned workshops where the practice of forging metal has been handed down through the generations.

When it comes to food, don't miss the local cheeses, which are renowned for their quality and authentic ingredients. Specialities include the caciocavallo podolico, scamorza, ricotta, provolone, mozzarella and burratina. This is all thanks to the master cheesemakers, who can be seen at work in the Casetta del Pastore in the old town, where they demonstrate their skill in producing "stringy" cheeses and you can sample the best of the local dairy traditions.
