Monte Colombo-Montescudo

Overview

A hillside municipality in the province of Rimini, from the two main residential areas, you can enjoy a vast and spectacular panorama, stretching from Pesaro to Ravenna and, on the days when the sky is particularly clear, glimpses of the peaks of the Istrian mountains. The heart of Montescudo is the Piazza del Comune with a central well and the top of the watchtower that was joined by tunnels to the 15th-century fortress. It is worth strolling through the old town centre to savour the mediaeval atmosphere and then descend to the eighteenth-century wash-house, a rarity for its type known as "a trabocchi" because of its basins of decreasing height. Historically disputed between the Malatesta and Montefeltro families, the area is now an ideal refuge for nature lovers and lovers of the variety of the Apennine landscape that, in its digressions towards the coast, softens and lets the green of the woods touch the blue of the sky.
